I first went to Pier Physiotherapy with a near impossible task!
I had been training to do the Great North Run for about 18months, when 6 weeks before the race my knee became very painful and I was unable to walk without limping, let alone run! I went to a different local Physiotherapist for 2 weeks who completely misdiagnosed my condition and had me doing stretches that were actually making my knee more painful. I decided to get a 2nd opinion as I had less than 5 weeks to sort out the problem.
Within 20 minutes of walking into Pier the correct diagnosis was made. It was explained to me very clearly and I understood exactly what was going on.
Throughout the treatment we discussed what progress was expected by the next appointment and what I could do in my own time to help. The advice I was given was clear and my expectations of progress were realistically set. By 4 days before the run I had no pain in my knee but we had run out of time to see if I was able to run on it. I went to the start of the Great North Run expecting to walk the vast majority of it, which was an amazing position to be in as 4 weeks earlier I had thought I was going to have to pull out.
Purely down to the treatment and advice I received from Martin at Pier, I was able to run approximately 6 miles of the Great North Run and finished it with a very respectable time of 2hr51minutes. I raised £3,200 for The Williams Syndrome Foundation. My son has Williams Syndrome so completing the run and receiving the funds was unbelievably important to me.
THANK YOU PIER, I COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!
